As goes the saying, where there is a will, there is a way. This proverb truly fits Pinky Das (pseudo-name), a sub-urban girl, residing in the outskirts of Delhi. A family of four, father being the sole earner, a home maker mother and a younger brother. Pinky Das is gregarious and full of life, like other teenagers of her age. Life was going well and certainly on track but destiny had its own plans . Fate has a habit of examining all of us in different ways. Sometimes, it tests us by granting our wishes and sometimes by refusing them. Pinky Das didn’t realize this fact until she had to face something she never thought would come across her way.
Little did she knew that her small, happy and prosperous world filled with hopes, dreams and aspirations is going to take an ugly turn. One unfortunate morning, her father met with an accident, a life-threatening accident. His vertebral column was fractured. This resulted in acute nerve damage and this injury could only be stabilized through surgery
The only bread winner of Pinky Das’s family became bed-ridden. This accident led the family into destitute and weariness. Pinky Das, a student of standard 12, a mere teenager, Her mother was inconsolable and younger brother was too young to understand the gravity of it.
The surgery and medical expenses, led them to sold all their prized possessions like jewellery and later their house. They were homeless & helpless.
Pinky Das knew she had to take the responsibility of her family. She decided to quit her studies at this nightmarish moment of her life. She Gathered all her strength and started looking for a job. After several rejections, she bagged a job at a small boutique. It was like a ray of hope for her financially crippled family. After an entire day at the boutique, she would rush back home to attend to the studies of her brother at home and later help her mother in the household chores . She worked hard with all her vigour and earned enough to feed her family and pay school fees of her brother but not enough for medical expenses.
Within a span of 1 year , she struggled between multiple jobs to find a suitable earning which would feed her family as well as pay for her father’s medical expenses and her brother’s education .
After a few years , she decided to restart her education because she knew in order to earn well she needs to study well. She was very dedicated towards studies and her only objective was to qualify competitive examinations. She completed her graduation and then MBA with flying colours. She got placed in a prestigious management company.
She bought the same house that she had to sell in order to manage finances. Her father is recovering now, his brother studying well and her mother couldn’t be happier.
This is life and it is unpredictable. There will be hard times, trying times, testing times but one must find courage to extenuate the situations with strength of mind and heart.
Pinky Das is an inspiration for all of us. Many face such challenges and giving up is the easiest thing to do under the given circumstances . But Pinky fought all the odds and emerged as a winner . She was not discouraged , she crossed all obstacles in her way and never let anyone stop her from being the best version of herself . We salute her undying spirit
